A few days after we arrived at Morro Strand State Beach to volunteer as camp hosts, I planted marigolds in one of two barrels already sitting in the little yard. Within days, something was eating the flower petals. Today, all the blooms are gone and we have a piece of netting around what is left of the flowers.
