Central Coast Culture

A snapshot of local culture this summer in a small Central Coast California city. Lots to do on an RV adventure!

Just Another Day?

This morning after weighing in at a stable 186 lbs. (at least I didn’t gain), John and I headed out to Morro Bay’s spic and span McDonald’s for breakfast. I ordered my one fatty breakfast for the week – a delicious sausage biscuit.

While at McDonald’s I helped a visitor from Poland get signed onto Skype with his electronic notebook. John and I sipped our espresso drinks and munched away as Frank spoke to his wife back in Poland in their Polish language.

Today was laundry day, so I set off straight from McDonald’s via Los Osos Highway to my favorite San Luis Obispo Laundromat. On the way over, I shot a few pictures using my new 70-300mm, 4-5.6 lens.

This farm is producing fields of brightly colored flowers.

Workers harvested and packaged broccoli for transport to grocery stores locally and far away. I am always amazed by the sight of people doing this work.

In SLO, I packed the washer, grabbed my camera and set out walking to the nearest residential
neighborhood. I passed a small florist's booth on the way (above scene).

At the first house in the neighborhood, I caught this honey bee at work.

People had planted beautiful flowers in their front yards.

I love the idea of growing food in one's yard. Citrus does well in Central Coast California.
And more beautiful flowers...

All in all, I had a delightful morning and early afternoon today. Photography is sure a great way to make use of that time between washing and drying clothes when you have to use a public Laundromat. And a new camera lens can really freshen up the taking of pictures.

Streets of SLO II

I took time out yesterday from annual exam appointments to walk around the town of San Luis Obispo (California). I took pictures using my new zoom lens on my Pentax istd. I love the advent of digital photos and I love this small city of approximately 45,000 people. I passed a shop that works on antique cars.

At the Cowboy Cookie and Grub Shop, I had the Wrangler (an oatmeal coconut rice krispy) cookie. The sales person said I would not be disappointed. And he was right. Yum.

The old mission was a beautiful white-washed structure.

Shop owners and employees were busy getting ready for opening their shops.

Flowers were blooming everywhere around the streets of SLO and along the creek that runs through the middle of the city.

This area seems to attract antique vehicle owners with their automobiles. This Studebaker was parked along the street.

The trees leaves were bright yellow green with light shining through the limbs. I could live in this town in a minute. But with California's high unemployment, work is hard to find in the area.

The flowers of the beautiful Jacaranda trees blossomed everywhere.

Streets of SLO

Today I went to San Luis Obispo (California) for a doctor's appointment. While there I purchased a telephoto lens for my Pentax IstD. I shot lots of pictures and am learning to work with its qualities. A very nice shift from being at the campground where camp host.

Bayside Cafe

John and I decided that we're going to the Bayside Cafe over at the Morro Bay (California) Marina today. We have yet to experience this little find on our RV adventure.

Drive to Big Sur

In a few weeks, John and I will tow our trailer up to Big Sur (California) along Hwy 1 to report to our next campground host assignment at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. We're preparing for the continuation of our RV adventure.

Living my Dream

The name of the fishing boat is Living My Dream. Are you living your dream?

Salty Air Equals Rusty Stuff

I am so glad that our RV adventure brought us to Morro Bay for several months. Living so close to the ocean has caused a great deal of rusting on The Jazz (our fifth wheel) though. This is a shot of boats down at the harbor. You can see clearly that the metal stuff on the dock plus the salt air equals rust.

Morro Bay Harbor Digital Photograph

The light in Morro Bay was incredible last evening. Everything looked surreal. I am going to miss this place when we leave in three weeks to continue our RV adventure in Big Sur, California.

Come Dock with Me

We're back in foggy Morro Bay (California) after several days away. There is a special beauty here with the ocean, docks and boats. I wonder what it would be like to have your RV adventure on a boat?

Drifter

This old log was lying on Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur (California). As I walked by, the color and lines caught my eye. Another find on the RV adventure.

Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, California

John allowed the dogs to socialize (though Dakota preferred sniffing a rock) on Thursday as we explored Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur. It was the most beautiful location. I love the activity in this scene and the scenery. What a great stop on our RV adventure. Enjoy!

Big Sur RV Adventure

As we camped at Pfeiffer Big Sur Campground (California) along the Big Sur River over the past several days, these leaves kept calling my attention with the way they reflected the light later in the day. Can't wait until we are campground hosts in this beautiful park.

Big Sur Escape

John, the doggies and I are having a getaway at Pfeiffer Big Sur Campground. We're camped right along the Big Sur River. Lovely part of the RV adventure.

Wooden Crates and the Chevy

More from my sojourn at 10660 Los Osos Valley Road (San Luis Obispo, California). I love to take the time from the campground where we are camp hosting to scout out some good shots! As long as we're moving, this old RV adventure is going to last!

Webs and Wheel

The webs attached to the Chevy steering wheel gave some indication of just how long that old car had been sitting there. The things you discover on an RV adventure are endless! (Click on picture to enjoy larger version.)

Crossing the Ford

This is another shot from 10660 Los Osos Road in San Luis Obispo (California). The previous three posts contain additional shots from the same location taken on a break from my RV adventure and responsibilities as Campground host.

Old International

This is an old International from 10660 Los Osos Valley Road (San Luis Obispo, California). It is a great location for taking pictures and a nice break from campground hosting and the details of everyday RV adventure life.

In the Back of My Chevy

This is another shot from 10660 Los Osos Valley Road, San Luis Obispo, California. This location is worth returning to again and again as there is so much stuff there to photograph. Be sure to click on this one for the best view. It's places like this that make a RV adventure worth being on!

Pioneer Super Liner - The Last RV Adventure

I've been driving by a ranch that really catches my eye on my way to and from Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo (California). Yesterday, I dropped by to purchase local produce from the vegetable and fruit stand on the property. The person manning the stand allowed me to take pictures as he said that this location is a major attraction for artists and photographers. This is an old Pioneer Super Line trailer at 10660 Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo, California. I will plan to post more pictures over the next several days. (It turns out to be a controversial place - see link.)

The RV Campground Host Family, Minus Me

I know. Its an odd little shot. But I couldn't resist posting the photo of my cute little family. There's the big boy Dakota, the little princess Gingee and big John in the background! We're out for a post-4th-of-July car ride down to Morro Bay.

Refresh

What is it about a pool of water that is so irresistible to little feet? I hope you're having a beautiful 4th of July.

An RV Adventure for One

The campground is filled to the brim this 4th of July weekend. This little trailer houses one person just across from us. I like it because it is cute and because we can still see the ocean beyond it.

I Love Succulents

Beautiful succulents abound throughout Central Coast California. These are growing in a pot along the waterfront  in downtown Morro Bay. While on our RV adventure, I like to always have some growing in our camp host site.

Undies

On a recent multi-day departure from my RV adventure, I took a trip to Ojai, California and stayed in a vacation rental. Excitedly, I opened a drawer in which to place my belongings. To my surprise, the drawer was already sprinkled with someone else's thong undies. I was fascinated by the fact that the underwear were there and by the colors, shapes and sizes of the under garments.
